The R7 Chamberings: Ballistically Optimized

We don’t just chamber rifles; we optimize them. Whether you are looking for high velocity or heavy-for-caliber stability, our caliber selection is curated for the modern, educated marksman.

  1. 22 Creedmoor The ultimate fast-twist varmint or PRS trainer. We leverage the increased case capacity to push high-BC 80gr+ projectiles at velocities that defy wind drift, offering a flat trajectory that shames the .22-250.
  2. .270 Winchester A classic revitalized through modern tolerances. By utilizing premium barrels with optimized bores, we ensure this venerable flat-shooter maintains its reputation for high-velocity terminal performance on medium game.
  3. .280 Ackley Improved The thinking man’s 7mm. Near 7mm Rem Mag performance with less powder, less recoil, and better brass life. The 40-degree shoulder reduces bolt thrust and case stretching—efficiency at its finest.
  4. .30-06 Springfield The gold standard of versatility. This legend excels with modern high-BC .30-cal bullets, proving that 100+ years of ballistic history is still relevant in any hunting camp.
  5. 300 PRC Purpose-built for the extreme long-rang hunter. Designed to head-space off the shoulder rather than a belt, it’s optimized for the heaviest .30-cal bullets (225gr+) to maintain supersonic flight well past the 1,500-yard mark.
  6. .300 Win Mag The belted workhorse. We build these to maximize the potential of the .300WM, ensuring consistent concentricity and chamber depths that allow you to take full advantage of this caliber’s immense kinetic energy.
  7. .300 WSM Short-action efficiency with magnum authority. The fat powder column provides a more uniform ignition and a faster pressure peak, delivering .300 Win Mag velocities in a lighter, more rigid short-action platform.
  8. .308 Winchester The benchmark of predictability. Known for its inherent accuracy and barrel longevity, our .308 builds focus on a repeatable harmonics profile, making it the most reliable “do-it-all” short-action in the rack.
  9. 6.5 PRC The “big brother” to the Creedmoor. This is a magnum-contour cartridge designed for the 140–156gr class of bullets. It offers a 200+ fps advantage over the Creedmoor, extending your ethical effective range significantly
  10. 6.5 Creedmoor The king of efficiency. With a high BC-to-recoil ratio, this caliber allows for incredible shooter consistency. We chamber these for maximum concentricity to ensure sub-MOA performance is the floor, not the ceiling.
  11. 6mm Creedmoor A competition-born flat-track racer. Pushing 105-115gr pills at high velocities, it offers a laser-flat trajectory and minimal recoil, allowing you to track your own vapor trail and spot your hits in real-time.
  12. 7 PRC The modern 7mm masterpiece. Designed with a fast-twist requirement and a long “throat” to seat high-BC bullets out of the powder column, it is arguably the most ballistically “correct” 7mm cartridge ever mass-produced.
  13. 7mm Rem Mag The timeless magnum. By combining this cartridge’s proven reach with our precision gunsmithing, we eliminate the traditional “belted magnum” accuracy hurdles to create a high-velocity mountain rifle system.
  14. 14. 7mm-08 Remington Short-action perfection for the recoil-sensitive marksman. It maintains impressive sectional density and downrange energy, making it an incredibly efficient choice for a lightweight, high-mobility field rifle.

Actions

The Foundation: Precision Engineered Actions

At R7 Custom, the action is the heart of the system. We don’t settle for factory tolerances. We select (NO) actions that provide the perfect marriage of smooth cycling, structural rigidity, and repeatable lock-up. For the shooter who demands the pinnacle of performance, we offer four industry-leading platforms, each chosen for its specific mechanical advantages.

1.Lone Peak Arms: The Razor

The Pursuit of Lightweight Rigidity. Machined from pre-hardened 416R stainless steel, the Razor is the gold standard for the high-country hunter.

  • The Tech: Features a wire-EDM cut raceway for glass-smooth operation and an integrated recoil lug for maximum structural integrity.
  • The Advantage: The one-piece fluted bolt is constructed from 4340 chrome moly and finished with Cerakote, reducing friction and increasing surface hardness. At just 26–28.5 oz, it offers a world-class strength-to-weight ratio.
2.Terminus Actions: The Apollo

The 3-Lug Efficiency Master. For shooters who prioritize speed and a short bolt lift, the Apollo is a masterpiece of modern engineering.

  • The Tech: A 3-lug design featuring a 60° bolt throw, providing ample clearance for large optics and faster follow-up shots. It comes standard with a full DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) treatment on both the receiver and the bolt.
  • The Advantage: The patented threaded trigger pins eliminate the need for traditional “hammered” pins, ensuring a more secure and repeatable trigger interface. Its .725” diameter fluted bolt provides exceptional stability within the raceway.
3.Zermatt Arms: The Origin

The Pinnacle of Versatility. The Origin combines the high-end features of Zermatt’s competition actions with a design optimized for the serious field hunter.

  • The Tech: Incorporates a floating, interchangeable bolt head and a controlled-round feed (CRF) design, ensuring reliable extraction and feeding in the most demanding conditions.
  • The Advantage: Utilizing a mechanical ejector rather than a plunger-style, the Origin allows the shooter to control the ejection force—vital for those who handload or shoot in varied environments. Its Savage-small-shank thread compatibility offers a unique blend of custom precision with modular flexibility.
4.Kauger Arms: The Elite (Lightweight)

The Ultra-Lean Performance Build. When every ounce matters but failure is not an option, the Kauger Elite delivers a robust Remington 700 footprint in an incredibly light package.

  • The Tech: Weighing in at a mere 24.7 oz for the long action, the Elite features a sliding plate extractor and a 1/4 turn bayonet-style bolt shroud for tool-less field maintenance.
  • The Advantage: The bolt face and bore are machined in a single operation to ensure perfect concentricity. With an optional 80° bolt throw, it bridges the gap between traditional 90° feel and high-speed 60° clearance, all while maintaining one of the lightest bolt lifts in the industry.

The R7 Signature Touch

While these actions are exceptional out of the box, R7’s expertise ensures they are perfectly tuned for your specific build. Whether we are indexing the recoil lug or adjusting the trigger, an R7 Custom rifle ensures these premium components work in perfect harmony.

Trigger

The Interface: Precision Trigger Systems

The trigger is the most critical point of contact between the marksman and the machine. At R7 Custom, we select triggers that eliminate “creep” and “overtravel,” ensuring that your break is as crisp as a glass rod snapping. We offer four distinct options from the industry leaders, catering to both single-stage purists and two-stage aficionados.

1.Timney: Elite Hunter

The Definitive Hunting Single-Stage. Designed for the hunter who demands a factory-reliable safety with a custom-shop feel. This trigger is the evolution of the legendary Timney line, optimized specifically for the Remington 700 platform.

  • The Tech: Fully adjustable for pull weight from 1.5 to 4 lbs. The internal components are CNC machined from tool steel and heat-treated for a lifetime of service.
  • The Advantage: It features Timney’s iconic gold-plated sear and a heat-treated trigger shoe. This is the “set it and forget it” choice for a rugged, dependable field rifle where consistency in varying temperatures is paramount.
2.Timney: 700 Two-Stage

Predictability Through Controlled Take-up. For shooters who prefer a tactile “prep” before the shot, this two-stage system offers unparalleled control, especially in high-stress hunting scenarios.

  • The Tech: The first stage is adjustable from 8 oz to 1 lb, while the second stage ranges from 1 lb to 2 lbs.
  • The Advantage: This “staged” break allows the shooter to find the wall and verify their sight picture before the final, crisp release. It is an exceptional choice for long-range applications where heart rate and breathing control are factors.
3.TriggerTech: Special (Single-Stage)

The Frictionless Breakthrough. TriggerTech has redefined the trigger market with their patented Zero-Creep Technology™. Unlike traditional triggers that rely on sliding friction, TriggerTech uses a rolling sear.

  • The Tech: Features a “Falling Roller” design that eliminates the friction inherent in standard triggers. Adjustable from 1.0 to 3.5 lbs with an externally accessible adjustment screw.
  • The Advantage: Because it utilizes a roller, the sear release is incredibly consistent and significantly less prone to wear over thousands of rounds. It provides a “zero-creep” feel that most shooters describe as the cleanest break in the industry.
4.TriggerTech: Diamond (Single-Stage)

The Competitive Edge. The Diamond was developed for professional competition shooters who require the lightest, most consistent break possible, but it has quickly become a favorite for “extreme distance” hunting builds.

  • The Tech: Utilizing an even more refined version of the rolling sear, the Diamond is adjustable from less than 4 oz up to 32 oz. It features a “Pro Curved” or “Flat” shoe for enhanced tactile feedback.
  • The Advantage: It offers the most “variable-less” break available. For the shooter who understands that a heavy trigger pull is the enemy of long-range precision, the Diamond provides the ultimate mechanical advantage.
Which Break Is Right For You?

Whether you prefer the tactile security of a two-stage or the surgical snap of a rolling sear, we will help you select the pull weight and shoe profile that best matches your gloved hand or precision grip.

The Barrel

The Engine of Accuracy: Match-Grade Barrels

If the action is the heart of the rifle, the barrel is its soul. At R7 Custom, we don’t just “fit” barrels; we chamber them with surgical precision. We offer a curated selection of stainless steel and carbon-fiber-wrapped barrels from the most respected names in the industry—each chosen for its unique harmonic profile and thermal stability.

1.Bartlein Barrels: The Gold Standard of Cut-Rifling

Bartlein is the choice of world-champion shooters and elite marksmen. Unlike mass-produced barrels, Bartlein utilizes a single-point cut rifling process.

  • The Tech: This method introduces zero internal stress to the steel, ensuring that as the barrel heats up, your point of impact doesn’t shift. We specialize in their 5R Rifling, which uses slanted land sides to reduce bullet jacket deformation and fouling.
  • The Advantage: 5R rifling provides a better gas seal and higher velocities while making the barrel significantly easier to clean. It’s the ultimate choice for the “purist” seeking sub-MOA repeatability.
2.BSF Barrels: Tension-Wrapped Innovation

BSF takes a different approach to carbon fiber. Instead of bonding the carbon directly to the steel, they use a tension-wrapped sleeve.

  • The Tech: A 416R stainless steel match grade barrel is sleeved in a carbon fiber tube with air gaps that allow for 360-degree cooling.
  • The Advantage: By keeping the carbon under tension and allowing air to circulate around the liner, BSF barrels shed heat faster than traditional wraps, maintaining stiff-barrel accuracy in a lightweight mountain-rifle profile.
3.Carbon Six: The Sendero Specialist

The Sendero contour is the “sweet spot” of the rifle world—heavy enough for stability, light enough for the trek. Carbon Six excels at marrying this profile with high-modulus carbon fiber.

  • The Tech: Featuring an outside diameter (OD) of .830″ at the muzzle, these barrels utilize a unique carbon-layering process that optimizes the strength-to-weight ratio.
  • The Advantage: Carbon Six barrels are known for their exceptional bore consistency. They are the go-to for hunters who want a “beefy” look and feel without the ten-pound penalty of an all-steel bull barrel.
4.Hells Canyon Armory: The Precision Hunter

Hells Canyon Armory (HCA) barrels are born in the rugged terrain of the Pacific Northwest, designed for the “ounce-counter” who refuses to sacrifice long-range capability.

  • The Tech: HCA uses a proprietary carbon-wrapping technique that focuses on extreme harmonic dampening.
  • The Advantage: These barrels are specifically engineered to handle the high-pressure curves of modern magnum cartridges (like the 7 PRC and 300 PRC).
5.McGowen Precision: Hand-Honed Excellence

With decades of experience, McGowen provides some of the most consistent button-rifled barrels in the world.

  • The Tech: Every McGowen barrel used by R7 Custom is hand-lapped to a mirror finish. This removes any microscopic tool marks that could cause copper fouling or erratic flight.
  • The Advantage: McGowen offers an incredible balance of performance and value. Their stress-relieved 416R stainless steel is a workhorse material that stands up to the harshest Wisconsin winters and Colorado scree fields.
6.Proof Research: The Industry Pioneer

Proof Research set the standard for carbon fiber barrels, and their Sendero contour remains the benchmark by which all others are measured.

  • The Tech: Using aerospace-grade carbon fiber and a proprietary resin, Proof creates a barrel that is 64% lighter than steel but significantly stiffer.
  • The Advantage: Proof barrels actually diffuse heat along the carbon fibers, moving it away from the chamber faster than steel. This results in longer barrel life and unmatched shot-to-shot consistency during high-volume strings of fire.

R7 Custom Chambering & Crown Every barrel we install is dialed in to within .0001” of concentricity before Michael cuts the chamber. We finish every build with a target crown to ensure uniform gas expansion as the bullet exits—because at R7, we know that the last 1/16th of an inch of the barrel is just as important as the first.  Going to have to rewrite this.  Maybe something about how we match the action and barrel ?. The crown and chambering is done by the manufacturer.

The Stock

The Chassis & Stocks: Ergonomics Meets Stability

The stock is the foundation of your shooting position. At R7 Custom, we prioritize stocks that offer a “dead” feel—absorbing recoil and providing a rigid platform for the action to work from. We utilize the industry’s most advanced carbon fiber and composite designs to ensure your rifle is as comfortable to carry as it is to shoot.

The AG Composites Series: Carbon Fiber Excellence

AG Composites has set the pace for high-end carbon fiber stocks, known for their incredible stiffness and lightweight architecture.

  • AG Alpine Hunter: The quintessential mountain stock. Weighing roughly 31 oz, it features a high comb and a vertical grip for perfect trigger finger geometry.
  • AG Chalk Branch: A sleek, classic design for the hunter who wants a traditional feel with modern weight savings.
  • AG Adjustable Hunter & Adjustable Chalk Branch: These models feature a robust, integrated cheek riser. For shooters who run large-objective optics, these allow for a perfect “cheekweld-to-eye-box” alignment without adding significant bulk.
The Grayboe Phoenix 2 The Ultimate Hybrid.

The Phoenix 2 is a “go-anywhere” stock that bridges the gap between a traditional hunting stock and a precision chassis.

  • The Tech: Constructed from a fiberglass epoxy wrap, it features a built-in adjustable cheekpiece and an M-LOK rail on the forend.
  • The Advantage: It’s incredibly durable and features a vertical grip that is comfortable for both prone shooting and off-hand shots in the timber.
The McMillan Legacy: The Gold Standard

McMillan has been the choice of elite military units and serious hunters for over 40 years. We utilize their “Game Warden” and “ELR” series for their legendary toughness.

  • Game Warden (Standard & Adjustable): A modern take on a classic. It features a larger forend to accommodate larger barrel contours (like our Carbon Sendero options) and a vertical grip for improved ergonomics.
  • ELR Hunter: Specifically designed for the 7 PRC and 300 PRC builds. It is engineered to handle the recoil of heavy-hitting magnums while maintaining the balance needed for long-range precision.
  • Mountain Tracker: The featherweight choice. Designed for the sheep hunter or the alpine trekker, it’s optimized for weight reduction without sacrificing the rigid bedding surface needed for accuracy.
MDT HNT26: The Ultralight Chassis System

For the shooter who wants the features of a tactical chassis in a weight-class that feels impossible.

  • The Tech: This is a full carbon-fiber chassis system, not just a stock. It features a folding buttstock and an integrated ARCA rail.
  • The Advantage: At just 26 oz, it allows for a fully adjustable length of pull and cheek height. If you are a backpack hunter looking to save every gram while maintaining the modularity of a modern chassis, the HNT26 is the apex choice.
The R7 Bedding Process

Even the best stock is useless without a perfect interface. Every R7 Custom rifle features Pillar Bedding. This eliminates “POI shift” caused by humidity or temperature changes, ensuring your rifle stays zeroed through a Wisconsin blizzard or a Colorado sun-soak.

The Bottom Metal

The Feeding System: Precision Bottom Metal

The bottom metal is the unsung hero of a reliable rifle system. It dictates how rounds are fed into the chamber and how the rifle interfaces with your magazines. At R7 Custom, we exclusively use “flush-fit” systems that offer the speed of a detachable box magazine (DBM) without the bulk of a tactical setup catching on your brush pants or gear.

1.Hawkins Precision: Hunter DBM

The Professional’s Choice for Sleek Efficiency. Hawkins Precision has mastered the balance between a sleek hunting profile and the rapid-reload capabilities of a tactical rifle.

  • The Tech: CNC-machined from a single billet of aluminum, the Hunter DBM is designed to fit flush with your stock. It is specifically engineered to work with Hawkins Hunter Magazines.
  • The Advantage: It features a patented cantilever spring release that is tucked into the trigger guard. This prevents accidental magazine drops while moving through heavy timber, ensuring your ammunition stays exactly where it belongs until the moment of truth.
2.MDT: Hunting Bottom Metal

Lightweight Modularity for the Modern Hunter. MDT (Modular Driven Technologies) is known for dominating the competition circuit, and they’ve brought that same “zero-failure” engineering to their hunting-specific bottom metal.

  • The Tech: This system is optimized for the AICS magazine pattern—the industry standard for reliability. It features a contoured, snag-free design and an oversized trigger guard to accommodate gloved fingers during late-season hunts.
  • The Advantage: Built from high-grade 6061-T6 aluminum, it provides a rigid bedding surface that enhances the overall stiffness of the stock’s action area. It is the perfect choice for the shooter who wants the reliability of a chassis-fed system in a traditional stock configuration.

The R7 Fit & Finish

We don’t just “bolt on” bottom metal. The R7 Team ensures that every unit is perfectly inletted and timed with the action’s feed ramps. Whether you are running a 3-round flush mag for a mountain hunt or a 5-round setup for the range, your R7 Custom rifle will cycle with a smooth every time you work the bolt.

Cerakote Finish

The Shield: Professional Cerakote™ Finishing

In the rugged environments of a Wisconsin treestand or a Colorado elk camp, moisture and abrasion are the enemies of your rifle. At R7 Custom, we don’t just build for accuracy; we build for survival. Cerakote™ is a ceramic-based finish that provides a world-class barrier against corrosion, chemicals, and impact.

By applying a thin-film ceramic coating to the action and barrel, we ensure your investment is protected against the harshest elements nature can throw at you.

Our Signature Palette

We offer nine field-proven colors, allowing you to tailor your rifle’s aesthetic to your hunting environment:

Classic & Tactical Earth & Field The Grey Tones

H-146 Graphite Black: A deep, satin black for a clean, professional look.

H-236 OD Green: A richer, darker woodland green.

H-265 FDE (Flat Dark Earth): The gold standard for modern hunting rifles.

The Optics

The Vision: High-Definition Precision Optics

A custom rifle is only as effective as the glass that guides it. At R7 Custom, we don’t believe in “filler” optics. We have curated a selection of scopes from Leupold, Nightforce, and Vortex that match the mechanical precision of our builds. Whether you are counting points at 400 yards or holding for wind at 1,000, these optics provide the clarity, tracking, and durability required for a field-proven system.

  1. Leupold: Mark 5HD Series The Professional’s Choice for Lightweight Clarity. The Mark 5HD is arguably the best “pounds-for-performance” scope on the market. It is significantly lighter than other scopes in its class, making it the perfect partner for our AG Composites or McMillan builds.
  • Available Models: 3.6-18×44 and 5-25×56.
  • The Tech: Features the M5C3 (MIL) or M1C3 (MOA) ZeroLock™ adjustments, providing three revolutions of travel with a push-button lock.
  • The Advantage: The PR2 reticles (available in both MIL and MOA) offer a clean, open center for high-speed target acquisition while providing the precise “Christmas tree” holdovers needed for long-range corrections.
  1. Nightforce: NX8 Series Overbuilt to Outlast. Nightforce is synonymous with ruggedness. The NX8 line takes the legendary durability of the NXS and packs it into a compact, 8x magnification power range.
  • The Models: 1-8×24 F1 (The ultimate “brush-to-broad-meadow” optic) and 2.5-20×50 F1 (The versatile long-range hunter).
  • The Tech: First Focal Plane (F1) reticles ensure your holdovers are accurate at every magnification setting.
  • The Advantage: These scopes are famously robust. If your hunt involves horseback, rugged ATV rides, or steep Colorado climbs where the rifle might take a bump, the NX8 is the insurance policy you need.
  1. Vortex: Razor HD LHT & Strike Eagle The Apex of Versatility and Value. Vortex offers industry-leading features backed by their legendary VIP Warranty. We utilize two of their most successful platforms for R7 builds.
  • Razor HD LHT (4.5-22×50): Designed specifically for the long-range hunter. It features an illuminated XLR-2 reticle (MIL or MOA) and the RevStop™ Zero System for a rock-solid return to zero. It is incredibly light for a 22x optic.
  • Strike Eagle Series (1-8x, 3-18x, 5-25x): The “value-performance” leader. These First Focal Plane scopes feature the EBR-7C reticle, giving shooters a competition-style interface at a price point that keeps the total rifle system affordable.
Reticle Selection: MIL vs. MOA

At R7 Custom, we speak both languages.

  • MIL (Milliradians): The global standard for precision shooting. Based on base-10 math, it’s the choice for shooters who want a streamlined, metric-style adjustment system.
  • MOA (Minutes of Angle): The traditional choice for many American hunters. Based on 1.047 inches at 100 yards, it offers a fine-tuned adjustment for those used to thinking in “inches.”
Not sure which optic fits your hunting style?

The R7 Team will help you choose the right objective size and magnification range based on your primary game and the typical terrain you navigate.

The Rings

The Connection: Precision Scope Rings

A world-class action and a high-definition optic are only as good as the hardware that bridges them. At R7 Custom, we treat scope rings as a critical mechanical interface, not an afterthought. Inferior rings can slip under recoil or pinch the scope tube, leading to erratic “flyers” and lost zeros. We utilize three tiers of precision rings designed to ensure your optic stays perfectly aligned through the recoil of a 300 PRC and the bumps of a backcountry trek.

1.Leupold: Backcountry Cross-Slot Rings

The Lightweight Hunter’s Standard. For those focused on building the ultimate lightweight mountain rifle, the Backcountry series offers incredible strength without the weight penalty.

  • The Tech: Machined from 7075-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum.
  • The Advantage: These rings feature a streamlined, low-profile design that minimizes snag points in the brush. They offer a rock-solid cross-slot connection that provides more surface area contact with the rail, ensuring your zero remains “set and forget.”
2.Nightforce: X-Treme Duty™ Ultralite™ Rings

Titanium-Reinforced Ruggedness. When “failure” is not in your vocabulary, the Nightforce Ultralite rings are the answer. These are engineered to provide the strength of steel at a fraction of the weight.

  • The Tech: Features 7075-T6 hard-anodized aluminum bodies with titanium alloy jaw and nut assemblies.
  • The Advantage: Titanium is famously resistant to thermal expansion and contraction. Whether you are hunting in a 90°F September heatwave or a -10°F Wisconsin late-season blizzard, these rings maintain a constant, unyielding grip on your optic.
3.Vortex: Pro Series Rings

The Professional’s Value Benchmark. The Pro Series rings provide the precision of a custom shop with the reliability Vortex is known for.

  • The Tech: Type-III triple-layered hard-coat anodized aluminum with the torque specs laser-engraved directly onto the rings.
  • The Advantage: These rings are kept to extremely tight tolerances to ensure they don’t require “lapping.” They provide a wide, secure clamping surface that prevents scope movement during the violent recoil pulses of high-velocity magnum cartridges.
The R7 Mounting Process

Mounting an optic is a science. When you choose an R7 Custom rifle, we don’t just “clamp” your scope on.

  • Perfect Leveling: We use high-precision levels to ensure the reticle is perfectly perpendicular to the bore. Even a 1-degree cant can cause significant horizontal misses at 600+ yards.
  • Correct Torque: We utilize digital torque wrenches to apply the exact inch-pounds required by the manufacturer—preventing tube damage while ensuring maximum grip.
